Welcome Message
The Asia Pacific region has special development needs given its rapid emergence as a global production hub, but coupled to that are also the rapid social adjustments & shifts in patterns of consumption and production which aren’t positive for the environment. As said in the Special Asia Pacific Issue of the Journal of Cleaner Production (Chiu and Ward, 2009), we need to use SCP as a strategy to meet the global challenges by covering the implementation of cleaner production and life-cycle principles at the systems and regional planning level. APRSCP is therefore tasked to continuously improve its Roundtable facility, and to disseminate the regional dialogue to all its stakeholders, more specifically, through mass media, such as this brand new website.
SCP issues can be very interdisciplinary; they are both a science and technology challenge and a social science challenge. The Roundtable again effects its role to balance such intertwines. Both our important partners, such as UNIDO, UNEP, UN ESCAP, SWITCH, to name a few; and the scientific community in our region believe that carrying out such balancing task on a regular timeframe need full participation of the stakeholders. Through this new website we urge the readers, from among the authorities in SCP to the PhD students, to contribute your thoughts and critique. Amount of accumulated inputs prior to our next Roundtable (June 10-12, 2010 in Colombo, Sri Lanka) would be half the success to a fruitful output that we all look forward to. Bookmark this website and be with us in the SCP journey to a sustainable Asia Pacific!
